Behind the Bar
Behind the Bar
From the first pour to the final wrap
There is a part of Seawater Bathworks that you don't always see in the finished photographs.
Before there is a beautifully wrapped bar of soap, there is a batch being mixed, poured and shaped by hand.
This is where the character of each bar begins.
Our cold-process soaps are handcrafted in small batches, allowing us to thoughtfully combine the oils, butters, botanicals, colors and fragrances that give each variety its own personality.
Some batches are creamy and understated. Others develop beautiful swirls of lavender, rose or botanical green. And because they are made by hand, no two pours—and no two bars—are ever exactly alike.
Once poured into their molds, the soaps begin their transformation. Large soap loaves are unmolded, carefully cut into individual bars and then given the time they need to cure.
It is a slower process, and that's part of what we love about it.
There is something wonderfully satisfying about seeing a freshly made loaf become rows of individual bars—each one revealing patterns and details that weren't completely visible when the soap was first poured.
Then comes one of our favorite stages: the finishing.
Each cured bar is inspected and prepared for wrapping before receiving its Seawater Bathworks label. What began as oils, butters and botanicals is finally ready to become part of someone's daily bathing ritual.
For us, handcrafted isn't simply a word on a label.
It is the mixing, pouring, waiting, cutting and wrapping that happens behind every bar.
And while the finished soap may be beautiful, we think the process of making it is pretty beautiful too.
Made slowly. Wrapped by hand. Created for the ritual.
